Oxfam India participates in Mumbai Marathon against 'Climate Change'

Oxfam India plans to utilize the funds raised in the Marathon for its ongoing projects on adaptation to climate change in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

A team of runners from Oxfam India participated in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon running for the cause Climate Change. Avendus Capital extended their support to Oxfam India by running on its behalf at the marathon. Oxfam India plans to utilize the funds raised in the Marathon for its ongoing projects on adaptation to climate change in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.  

Nisha Agarwal, CEO, Oxfam India, said, “We need many more events like the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon that involve the average citizens in the development of their own country and encourage them to be active citizens. The two India’s – the haves and have-nots – will only start to come together when many more Indians get engaged in the fight against poverty and injustice.’’ 

Oxfam India regularly participates in marathons across India to spread awareness and drive sensitivities towards social causes like environment, domestic violence etc. Recently, Oxfam India also participated in the Airtel Delhi half Marathon in 2009 and 2010 as well and was supported by Accenture and Cox & Kings.
