Khoshoo awards for energy efficiency, cutting waste
Creating an ecology park at the edge of a bustling city and campaigning for better energy efficiency — these were the ideas recognised by the TN Khoshoo Memorial Award.
The award was presented to Joss Brooks, a member of Auroville in Puducherry and Girish Sant, a member of Pune-based NGO Prayas.
The Pitchandikulam Bioresource Centre, the project for which Brooks was awarded, is working to convert a wasteland to an ecological wetland.
“We are talking of practical restoration of ecology. The trick is to involve the community. Any urban restoration has to be environment friendly. In Delhi, better water sheds need to be made. With community participation, the city can reach a point where zero sewage goes into the stormwater drains and the Yamuna,” Brooks told Newsline.
Energy efficiency, meanwhile, has been Sant’s focus for long.
